About Us


Welcome to the Health Science Colleges (HSC) Research Blog, a space dedicated to supporting research, sharing knowledge, and celebrating the scholarly contributions of the HSC community.

As demand for research-related books increased, the WCCN Libraries established a dedicated Research Collection in 2011. Previously distributed throughout the collection, these books were brought together in one location to facilitate easier browsing and retrieval.

The collection includes resources on nursing research, general research methods, nursing theories, thesis and dissertation writing, literature reviews, academic writing, epidemiology and statistics.

Current Scholarship and Academic Opportunities: Find information about current scholarships and relevant opportunities to support further study, professional development and research.

Former Staff and Institutional Legacy: Celebrate the contributions and achievements of former WCCN staff members who have helped shape nursing education and the institution's history.

In Memoriam: Remember and honour members of the WCCN community who have passed away, acknowledging their service, contributions and lasting impact on the institution.

The HSC Blog is intended to be a growing resource for our academic community. We welcome your suggestions, book recommendations, research updates and ideas for future posts.

Telling stories differently: engaging 21st century students through digital storytelling

Penny Gill and I were honoured to be part of a team that published a book Telling stories differently: engaging 21st-century students through digital storytelling(DST).  Published by Sun Media the book evolved as a collaboration between  Janet Condy, an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Education at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT), and CPUT academics to capture their research projects using DST.  The purpose of the book is to share a collection of studies using DST as a pedagogical tool in CPUT.  The book was launched on Thursday 3 September 2015 at the International RASA and Pan African Literacy Conference in the Baxter Hall.
